In March 2025, the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi under the Chairmanship of its President, Madhav Kaushik, approved the selection of 22 books in 22 languages for the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2024 during the meeting held at Rabindra Bhavan in New Delhi, Delhi.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - This year, no translation prize has been declared in the Urdu language, while the translation prize in Nepali and Sanskrit will be announced at a later stage.
  • - The books were selected based on the recommendations made by the selection committees consisting of three members each in the respective languages, following the prescribed rules and procedures.
  • - Sahitya Akademi is Also known as India's National Academy of Letters, it was formally inaugurated by the Government of India (GoI) in March 1954. It serves as the central institution for literary dialogue, publication, and promotion in the country, conducting literary activities in 24 Indian languages, including English.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The prize is awarded for translations first published during the five years preceding the year immediately before the Prize for Translation, i.e., between January 2018 and December 31, 2022.
  • (ii) The awardee will receive a cash prize of ₹50,000 along with a copper plaque.
