MeitY Conducts IWBDC to Develop Indigenous Web Browser.

In March 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) conducted the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge (IWBDC), aimed at developing an indigenous web browser under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.


      - Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, MeitY, announced the winners of this challenge at an event held in New Delhi, Delhi. The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bangalore, Karnataka, managed the initiative.

      - A total of 434 teams participated in the competition, which had three stages: Idea Submission, Prototype Development, and Final Product Creation.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The winners of the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge (IWBDC) were announced as follows: Zoho Corporation secured the First Prize with a reward of Rs 1 crore. The Second Prize, worth Rs 75 lakh, went to Team PING, while Team Ajna was awarded the Third Prize of Rs 50 lakh. Additionally, Jio Vishwakarma received a Special Mention for their outstanding contribution.

      (ii) The new web browser developed through the Indian Web Browser Development Challenge comes with several advanced features. It offers enhanced security with a built-in trust store, ensuring safer online experiences. The browser also includes digital signing for authentication, adding an extra layer of protection. For families, parental controls are integrated to ensure child safety while browsing.

(iii) Additionally, the browser supports multiple Indian languages, making it more accessible to a diverse user base. It is compatible with various platforms, including Windows, iPhone Operating System (iOS), and Android, ensuring broad usability across different devices.
