Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh Launches 'India Bioeconomy Report 2025' and BioSaarthi Initiative.

On March 21, 2025, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science & Technology (MoS&T), launched the 'India Bioeconomy Report 2025 (IBER 2025)' during the 13th anniversary celebrations of the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, Delhi.


      - While addressing the event, Union MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that India's bioeconomy has witnessed a 16-times increase over the past decade, growing from USD 10 billion in 2014 to USD 165 billion in 2024.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) Dr. Jitendra Singh launched BioSaarthi, a pioneering international mentorship initiative aimed at nurturing biotech startups for a period of 6 months.

      (ii) According to the India Bioeconomy Report 2025, the bioeconomy sector contributes 4.25% to India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The BioIndustrial segment accounts for nearly half of the bioeconomy, contributing 47.2%, while biopharma follows with a contribution of 35.2%.
