Safer Internet Day (SID) is celebrated globally on the second Tuesday of February to raise awareness and promote safe and responsible use of the internet, especially for children and young people. The day also aims to raise awareness about emerging online issues and current concerns.


      - SID 2025 is observed on February 11, 2025, marking the 22nd edition of SID.

      - The theme for SID 2025 is: "Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online."

     

Main Point :-   (i) In 2004, SID was originally launched by the European Union (EU) SafeBorders project and was later adopted by the Insafe network, a European Network of Safer Internet Centres (SICs) in 2005.

      (ii) SID is organised by the Insafe network and INHOPE (the International Association of Internet Hotlines) on behalf of the European Commission, as part of the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL).

(iii) The first SID was observed on February 6, 2004, and was celebrated in 14 countries, including 13 EU countries and Australia.
