In March 2025, Former Union Minister Debendra Pradhan, father of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), passed away at the age of 84 in New Delhi (Delhi).


      - He was born on 16 July 1941 in Nalam, Dhenkanal district, Orissa Province, British India (present-day Odisha, India).

      - Dr. Debendra Pradhan was a prominent Indian politician and a founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha.

      - He began his career as a medical officer in Talcher, Odisha. He joined the BJP in 1980 and served as the Odisha BJP state president and a national executive member of the BJP.

Main Point :-   (i) Debendra Pradhan served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for two consecutive terms from 1998 to 2004, representing the Deogarh constituency in Odisha.

      (ii) During his tenure, he held the position of Minister of State (MoS) for Surface Transport from 1998 to 1999 and later as MoS for Agriculture from 1999 to 2001.

(iii) He also served as the National Vice President of the BJP between 2001 and 2002.
