The United Nations (UN) International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is annually observed worldwide on 21 March to raise awareness about the challenges faced by people of African descent and all those affected by racism, racial discrimination, and exclusion.
- The theme for the 2025 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is "60th Anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD)."
- 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of ICERD, the first of the nine UN core international human rights treaties, laying the foundation for global efforts to combat racism and discrimination.
Main Point :- (i) On 26 October 1966, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/2142 (XXI) titled "Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination," proclaiming 21 March as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
(ii) The first-ever International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was observed on 21 March 1967.
