The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day of Happiness annually on March 20 to emphasize the significance of well-being and happiness in people's lives. The day promotes inclusive, equitable, and balanced economic growth while advocating for sustainable development and poverty eradication.


      - Theme of International Day of Happiness 2025: "Caring and Sharing".

      - In 2012, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/66/281, officially designating March 20 as the International Day of Happiness each year.

      - The resolution was proposed by Bhutan, a country that has prioritized national happiness over national income since the early 1970s. The first-ever International Day of Happiness was celebrated on March 20, 2013.

Main Point :-   (i) According to the World Happiness Report (WHR) 2025, Finland remains the happiest country in the world for the 8th consecutive year, followed by Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden.

      (ii) India has improved its ranking to 118th place (up from 126th in 2024), though it still reflects low levels of happiness.
