On March 9, 2025, Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW), introduced two new welfare schemes for girl children in Tripura. The announcement was made during the two-year celebration of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Tripura Government 2.0 at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala, Tripura.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The two schemes, Mukhyamantri Balika Samridhi Yojana and Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana, aim to provide financial assistance and promote academic excellence among girls in Tripura.
  • - This scheme is designed to provide financial security and support for higher education or other essential needs.Under this initiative, the Tripura government will deposit a one-time bond of Rs 50,000 in the name of every girl child born in a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family.
  • - Upon turning 18, the girl will receive the matured bond, which is expected to grow to Rs 8-10 lakh.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The scheme provides scooters to meritorious girl students to encourage self-reliance and ease of mobility for higher education and career growth.
  • (ii) Previously, scooters were awarded to the top 100 girls in the Higher Secondary examinations.
  • (iii) The scheme has now been expanded to include 140 meritorious girl students from all educational boards in Tripura.
