Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog Presents ₹2.63 Lakh Crore Budget for FY26.

In March 2025, Ajanta Neog, Finance Minister (FM) of Assam, presented a ₹2.63 lakh crore budget for the Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26) in the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dispur, Assam, with a Fiscal Deficit (FD) of ₹620.27 crore.


      - The state's budget expenditure saw a 250% increase, while Capital Expenditure (CapEx) rose to ₹24,964 crore in FY25.

      - The FY26 budget proposed an exemption of professional tax for individuals earning up to ₹15,000 per month under the Assam Profession, Trades, Callings, and Employments Taxation Act, 1947.

      - ₹342 crore was allocated to provide one-time financial support of ₹5,000 for tea workers.

Main Point :-   (i) Under the new state scheme 'Chief Minister’s Jibon Prerna,' students graduating from government universities and colleges in 2025 will receive ₹2,500 per month for one year.

      (ii) Mukhiya Mantri Nijut Moina Asoni (MMNMA) scheme: ₹391 crore was allocated to promote girls’ higher education and combat child marriage.
