In March 2025, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Ministry of Communications (MoC), and WhatsApp, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, Inc., collaborated to expand Meta's safety campaign 'Scam Se Bacho' (Stay Safe from Scams) to enhance digital safety in India.

      - This collaboration aims to educate citizens on identifying and reporting fraudulent communications, thus combating digital scams and the misuse of telecom resources.

      - The 'Scam Se Bacho' awareness campaign was launched in 2024 in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

Main Point :-   (i) Key initiatives under the collaboration between DoT and WhatsApp include the launch of the 'Sanchar Saathi portal' and mobile app, enabling users to report fraud, track connections, and manage lost or stolen devices.

(ii) Additionally, a Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) will facilitate real-time intelligence exchange between DoT and over 550 stakeholders, including banks and law enforcement, to tackle telecom misuse.

(iii) To further promote awareness, DoT will conduct workshops for officials, Telecom Service Providers, and Sanchar Mitras, while WhatsApp will translate safety materials into multiple regional languages for better accessibility.
