Stuart Richard Young Takes Oath as the 8th Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.

Appointment

On 17 March 2025, Stuart Richard Young, a Trinidadian attorney and politician, was sworn in as the 8th Prime Minister (PM) of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago during a ceremony at the President's House in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. He succeeds Dr. Keith Rowley, who resigned on 16 March 2025, concluding his nine-year tenure as PM.


      - Before his appointment, Young served as the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and as a Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister.

      - Stuart Richard Young began his political career in 2014 as a temporary Opposition Senator in the 4th Session of the 10th Republican Parliament. In 2015, he was elected as the People's National Movement (PNM) candidate for Port-of-Spain North/St. Ann's West and was appointed Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs.

      - From 2016 to 2018, he served as the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, followed by his role as Minister of Communications from 2018 to 2019. Additionally, he held the post of Minister of National Security from 2018 to 2021, playing a crucial role in overseeing national security policies.

Main Point :-   (i) Stuart Richard Young has been widely recognized as the "Minister of Everything" due to his extensive experience in handling multiple key portfolios and serving on various influential committees. His leadership and contributions have solidified his reputation within Trinidad and Tobago’s political landscape.

      (ii) In 2022, he was elected as Chairman of the PNM, further strengthening his leadership position within the party. His legal expertise was also acknowledged when he was appointed as Senior Counsel in June 2024. His growing influence led to his nomination as Prime Minister Designate by the PNM Parliamentary caucus in January 2025.

(iii) Beyond politics, Young is a member of the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn in the United Kingdom (UK). He is also a founding member of Synergy Television (TV) and WI Sports TV stations, highlighting his contributions to the media industry.
