India and Nepal Ink MoU to Enhance Collaboration in WASH Sector.
MOUs and Agreement
On 3 March 2025, the Government of India (GoI) and the Government of Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector, including waste management.
- The agreement aims to improve access to clean drinking water and sanitation by fostering collaboration between both nations and strengthening intergovernmental cooperation in the WASH sector.
- The MoU was signed in New Delhi, Delhi, in the presence of Union Minister Chandrakant Raghunath Patil, Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS), India, and Pradeep Yadav, Minister of Water Supply, Nepal, along with senior officials from both countries.
Main Point :- (i) Both countries will engage in capacity-building initiatives, including training programs for Nepali personnel in water resource management and related fields.
(ii) India and Nepal will exchange technological expertise and best practices in the WASH sector, while also collaborating on groundwater projects, including rainwater harvesting, artificial recharge, and quality enhancement.
(iii) The MoU reflects a shared commitment to public health, sustainability, and regional cooperation, strengthening ties between the two nations in the WASH sector.
