World Civil Defence Day (WCDD), also known as World Civil Protection Day, is observed annually on March 1 to raise awareness about civil defence and its vital role in protecting communities and individuals during emergencies and disasters. The day also honors the dedication and sacrifices of civil defence personnel. The 36th WCDD will be observed on March 1, 2025.
- "Civil Defence, Guarantee of Security for the Population," which highlights the critical role of civil defence organizations in ensuring public security.
Main Point :- (i) WCDD was officially established by the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) during the 9th General Assembly held on December 18, 1990, at the International Conference Center in Geneva, Switzerland.
(ii) The first WCDD was observed on March 1, 1990, under the guidance of the United Nations (UN).
(iii) In 2012, ICDO officially inaugurated Civil Defence Day (CDD) to further strengthen the observance.
