EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar Strengthens India-UK & Ireland Ties During March 4-9, 2025 Visit.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar undertook a six-day visit to the United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland from March 4 to 9, 2025, to strengthen India's bilateral engagements with both nations. During his visit, EAM engaged in discussions with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, emphasizing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK. This partnership spans key sectors such as Defence & Security, Trade & Economy, Health, Education, and People-to-People (P2P) ties.
- EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar focused on reinforcing the Great British Pound (GBP) 41 billion (around USD 53 billion) bilateral trade relationship between India and the UK.
- He inaugurated two new Indian consulates in Belfast (Northern Ireland), UK, and Manchester (England), UK to promote regional economic cooperation and investment.
- As a symbolic gesture of strengthening ties, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy presented EAM Dr. Jaishankar with a Tottenham Hotspur No. 1 jersey bearing his name at Chevening House, UK.
Main Point :- (i) During his visit to Ireland, EAM focused on expanding bilateral ties rooted in shared democratic values and cultural links.
(ii) EAM Dr. Jaishankar and Ireland’s Minister Simon Harris agreed to establish a Joint Economic Commission (JEC) to enhance trade, investment, and technological collaborations.
(iii) India and Ireland signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the annual exchange of diplomats, aimed at strengthening bilateral diplomatic relations.
