UN Observes International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness on March 5th.

The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness every year on March 5th to raise awareness about disarmament issues, especially among young people.


      - The day highlights how disarmament efforts can promote peace, prevent conflicts, and reduce the suffering caused by weapons.

      - March 5, 2025, will mark the 3rd observance of this day.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/77/51 on December 7, 2022, declaring March 5th as the International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness each year.

      (ii) The first observance of the day took place on March 5, 2023.
