"MoPR Launches 'Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayats (MWFGP)' Initiative to Empower Women in Local Governance".

On March 5, 2025, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Government of India, launched the 'Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayats (MWFGP)' initiative at the National Convention in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, as part of International Women's Day celebrations.


      - The initiative aims to enhance women's participation, safety, and leadership in local governance by establishing at least one Model Gram Panchayat in each district of India, reflecting gender-sensitive and girl-friendly governance practices.

      - The event was attended by Union Minister of State (MoS) Anupriya Patel, Union MoS S.P. Singh Baghel, MoPR officials like Vivek Bharadwaj (Secretary of MoPR), Sushil Kumar Lohani (Additional Secretary of MoPR), and representatives from various ministries and organizations, including UNFPA.

      - The model panchayats are designed to align with PM Narendra Modi's vision of creating safer, more inclusive, and socially just Gram Panchayats, contributing to a 'Viksit Bharat' through 'Viksit Panchayats.'

Main Point :-   (i) Two major initiatives were launched: Virtual Training Programs for developing Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayats and a Real-Time Monitoring Dashboard to track progress and enhance the performance of women-friendly gram panchayats across India.

      (ii) The digital platform will use technology to track, analyze, and enhance women's participation and welfare at the grassroots level. It will provide real-time insights and data-driven support to empower women leaders nationwide.

(iii) On March 8, 2025, MoPR will organize a nationwide Mahila Gram Sabha in all Gram Panchayats to promote the goals of the MWFGP initiative and to empower women at the grassroots level.
