Ajay Bhadoo has been appointed as the CEO of GeM.

In March 2025, the Government of India (GoI) appointed Ajay Bhadoo, an Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce (DoC) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), effective from March 3, 2025.


      - He will take up this new role while still managing his current responsibilities in the Department of Commerce. He will replace L Satya Srinivas, the current acting CEO of GeM.

      - Ajay Bhadoo is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1999 batch, belonging to the Gujarat cadre. He has over 20 years of experience in policy formulation and implementation.

      - He previously served as Deputy Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India and has held various important roles, including Joint Secretary to former President Ram Nath Kovind, CEO of the Gujarat Maritime Board, and Commissioner for the Rajkot and Vadodara Municipal Corporations.

Main Point :-   (i) GeM is India's largest online marketplace for government procurement. The platform is undergoing a major transformation and will soon become a next-generation digital platform powered by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

      (ii) GeM has already achieved significant success, with a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of Rs. 4.58 lakh crore, showing a 28.65% year-on-year growth.
