Manu Bhaker Wins Top Honour at BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year Awards 2024.

On February 17, 2025, the 5th edition of the "British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Indian Sportswoman of the Year (ISWOTY) Award 2024" took place in New Delhi, Delhi. The prestigious event celebrates and honors the exceptional achievements of Indian sportswomen, recognizing their excellence across various fields of competition.


      - Indian shooter Manu Bhaker was honored with the 'BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year Award 2024', becoming the first Indian woman to win 2 bronze medals in a single edition of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

      - Para shooter Avani Lekhara was named the 'BBC Para Sportswoman of the Year 2024', becoming the first Indian woman to win 3 Paralympic medals, including a gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics, following a gold and bronze in Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The nominations for the 2024 award were announced on January 16, 2025, showcasing 5 remarkable Indian sportswomen.

      (ii) The shortlisted nominees, who proceeded to the public vote, included Aditi Ashok (professional golfer), Manu Bhaker (professional shooter), Avani Lekhara (professional shooter), Smriti Mandhana (India women's cricket vice-captain), and Vinesh Phogat (professional freestyle wrestler).
