National Science Day (NSD) is celebrated every year on February 28 across India to commemorate the groundbreaking discovery of the 'Raman Effect' by Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (CV Raman), a renowned Indian physicist, in 1928. The day aims to emphasize the significance of science in daily life and honors the immense contributions of scientists in the advancement of India.


      - 28th February 2025 marks the 39th observance of NSD.

      - The theme of NSD 2025, "Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat," focuses on the crucial role of young minds in driving India's scientific and technological progress, aligning with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision of a developed and self-reliant India.

     

Main Point :-   (i) In 1986, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) recommended to the Government of India (GoI) that February 28 be declared as NSD.

      (ii) The first National Science Day was observed on February 28, 1987.
