Obituary

On 27 February 2025, Russian chess grandmaster Boris Spassky passed away at the age of 88 in Moscow, Russia. He was born on 30 January 1937 in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), Russia.


      - He became the 10th World Chess Champion in 1969 and held the title from 1969-1972.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) Boris Spassky famously competed with American Bobby Fischer in 1972, a match that became a Cold War conflict between the East (Soviet Union) and West (United States). This match was referred to as the "match of the century" against Bobby Fischer in 1972.

      (ii) He represented France in three chess Olympiads in 1984, 1986, and 1988, and played in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris, France during the 1990s.
