NITI Aayog Recently Forms Committee to Draft a Transformation Plan for AIIMS.

NITI Aayog, based in New Delhi, has formed a committee to develop a comprehensive plan aimed at transforming the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, Delhi, into a premier institution for medical practice and research.


      - The committee, chaired by Dr. V K Paul, a member of NITI Aayog, will evaluate the existing systems and propose comprehensive reforms with defined timelines.

      - The committee has been tasked with identifying ways to strengthen governance systems, create Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for clinical, academic, and research excellence, and propose strategies to improve patient management. Additionally, it will examine methods to ensure financial stability and independence for AIIMS operations.

      - NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) Research Foundation, aims to evaluate the experiences of countries that have implemented Universal Health Coverage (UHC) systems to derive insights and policy recommendations for India.

Main Point :-   (i) To improve healthcare delivery, accessibility, quality, and affordability, the draft paper suggests several multifaceted finance strategies that address both supply-side and demand-side issues.

      (ii) The Ayushman Bharat scheme, launched in 2018, has played a crucial role in reducing financial burdens for families.

(iii) The government aims to strengthen these programs further through policy interventions and stakeholder consultations.
