Government of India Extends V. Anantha Nageswaran's Tenure as Chief Economic Advisor Until March 2027.

Appointment

On February 20, 2025, the Government of India (GoI) extended the tenure of Venkatramanan (V). Anantha Nageswaran as Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) for an additional two years, until March 31, 2027.


      - The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved Nageswaran's contract extension until March 31, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) Nageswaran played a significant role in India’s annual Economic Survey 2024-25, which projected India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 6.3% to 6.8% for Financial Year 2025-26.

      (ii) Nageswaran assumed the position of the 18th Chief Economic Adviser on January 28, 2022, succeeding Krishnamurthy Venkata (KV) Subramanian, the 17th CEA, who served from 2018 to 2021.
