According to the Paris (France)-based International Energy Agency (IEA)'s report titled "India Gas Market Report: Outlook to 2030," India's natural gas consumption is projected to increase by nearly 60%, reaching 103 billion cubic meters (bcm) annually by 2030. This surge will be mainly driven by strong growth in city gas distribution, industrial demand, and power generation.

      - Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) imports are expected to more than double from 2023 to 2030, reaching 65 bcm annually, due to steady demand growth and slower increases in domestic production.

      - The key findings of the report were released during the India Energy Week (IEW) celebrations held in New Delhi.

Main Point :-   (i) The report suggests that with targeted strategies and policy interventions, India's total gas consumption could exceed the projected trajectory, potentially reaching around 120 bcm annually by 2030.

(ii) India's natural gas demand grew by over 10% in both 2023 and 2024, marking an inflection point, with total consumption in 2023 slightly surpassing the 2011 levels.
