The 12th edition of the World Governments Summit (WGS) took place from 11-13 February 2025 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the theme 'Shaping Future Governments.'The 2025 Summit aimed to inspire and empower the next generation of governments by bringing together governments, international organizations, thought leaders, and private sector leaders from around the world to foster international cooperation.
- The Summit was led by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Government of UAE, and Chairman of the World Governments Summit Organisation.
- The WGS was established in 2013 under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President (VP) and Prime Minister (PM) of the UAE.
- The WGS 2025 addressed six key thematic conversations: Effective Governance and Accountability, Financing the Future and the Global Economy, Climate Crisis Mitigation and Resilient Cities, Human-centric Futures and Capacity Building, Global Health Transformations, and Emerging Frontiers and the Future.
Main Point :- (i) Union Minister Bhupender Yadav (MoEFCC) represented India at WGS 2025, participating in the High-Level Roundtable on the Future of Mobility and the XDGs 2045 Ministerial Roundtable. His participation highlighted two key challenges for developing nations: the need for capacity building in clean technology and infrastructure, and the importance of securing adequate financing for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation.
(ii) The WGS Awards Program recognizes ministers, businesses, and innovators who leverage new technologies and strategic partnerships to address global challenges and enhance governance and society. The key awards include the Global Best M-Gov Award, The GovTech Prize, Best Minister Award, World Data Visualization Prize, Shaping Future Governments Award, and Edge of Government Award.
(iii) Indian computer science students Sagar Teotia (Team Lead), Abhinav Mishra, and Anushka Singh from Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology (MAIT), New Delhi, won the Bronze Award at the Global Best M-Gov Award 2025 during WGS 2025 in Dubai, recognizing the crucial role of universities and youth in tackling local and global challenges to create a better world.
