Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Approves Extension of Groundnut Procurement in Gujarat by 6 Days and Karnataka by 25 Days.

In February 2025, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), approved the extension of the procurement period for groundnut in Gujarat and Karnataka by 6 days and 25 days, respectively, beyond the standard 90-day procurement window, benefiting farmers in these states.


      - The Government of India (GoI) approved soybean procurement under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for Kharif 2024-25 in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

      - As of February 9, 2025, 19.99 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of soybean have been procured, benefiting over 8.46 lakh farmers.

      - The Government of India (GoI) approved the procurement of soybean and groundnut under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for Kharif 2024-25 across multiple states. As of February 9, 2025, 19.99 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of soybean and 15.73 LMT of groundnut have been procured, benefiting over 8.46 lakh and 4.75 lakh farmers, respectively.

Main Point :-   (i) The Government of India (GoI) approved the procurement of Tur, Urad, and Masur under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) up to 100% of state production for 2024-25 to boost domestic pulse production and reduce imports. The Union Budget FY26 extended this provision for four more years through Central Nodal Agencies (CNAs).

      (ii) Launched in 2018, PM AASHA is an umbrella scheme aimed at ensuring remunerative prices for farmers and stabilizing essential commodity prices for consumers. The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) serves as the nodal agency.

(iii) The scheme includes four key components: Price Support Scheme (PSS), Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), and Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF).
