In February 2025, Prince Karim Al-Husseini Aga Khan (also known as Aga Khan IV), the 49th hereditary imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and a renowned philanthropist, passed away at the age of 88 in Lisbon, Portugal. He was born on December 13, 1936, in Geneva, Switzerland.


      - Prince Rahim Al-Husseini has been appointed as the 50th imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims.

      - In 1957, at the age of 20, Prince Karim Al-Husseini Aga Khan became the imam of the Ismaili Muslims, a branch of Shia Islam, following the passing of his grandfather, Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan.

      - Queen Elizabeth II bestowed upon him the title of "His Highness" in 1957.

Main Point :-   (i) In 1959, he founded the Nation Media Group (NMG), which has grown into the largest independent media organization in East and Central Africa.

      (ii) He was the founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), one of the world's largest private development organizations.

(iii) In 2015, the Government of India (GoI) awarded him the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honor, for his contributions to social development in India.
