TN CM M.K. Stalin Inaugurates India's Largest Single-Location Solar Power Plant in Tirunelveli.

In February 2025, Muthuvel Karunanidhi (M.K.) Stalin, Chief Minister (CM) of Tamil Nadu (TN), officially inaugurated the 4.3 Giga Watt (GW) solar cell and module manufacturing facility of Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL). This facility is recognized as India's largest single-location solar manufacturing plant.


      - It is situated at Gangaikondan State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (SIPCOT) Industrial Growth Centre in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu (TN).

      - Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for Vikram Solar Ltd's 3 GW solar cell and 6 GW module manufacturing plant, based in Kolkata, West Bengal (WB). This project, with an investment of ₹2,574 crore, is expected to generate 2,500 jobs.

      - The event was attended by T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries & Commerce, Tamil Nadu; Dr. Praveer Sinha, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL); and Deepesh Nanda, CEO and MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL).

Main Point :-   (i) This facility has been established with an investment of ₹3,800 crore and is expected to generate around 4,000 jobs, with 80% of the workforce comprising women. It is designed to boost employment while supporting India's renewable energy sector.

      (ii) Equipped with advanced Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) and Mono Passivated Emitter & Rear Cell (PERC) technologies, the plant is set to meet the growing demand for Renewable Energy (RE) in India. These technologies enhance solar cell efficiency and contribute to sustainable energy production.

(iii) The facility will focus on manufacturing high-efficiency solar cells and modules, aiding India's clean energy goals. Initially, it will cater to Tata Power's ongoing projects before expanding to serve a broader market. TPSSL also operates a manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
