DGS Collaborates with C-DAC to Boost Maritime Innovation.

On January 25, 2025, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a scientific society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The partnership aims to enhance innovation, technology, and excellence in India’s maritime sector by adopting advanced technologies for maritime administration.
- The MoU was signed by Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping, and Magesh Ethirajan, Director General of C-DAC, in the presence of S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY.
- The event was attended by Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, MeitY; Sanket S. Bhondve, Joint Secretary, MeitY; Sunita Verma, Scientist G & Group Coordinator, MeitY; Savita Utreja, Scientist G, Group Coordinator (Cybersecurity), and other senior officers from MeitY, DGS, and C-DAC.
- The MoU focuses on integrating C-DAC's expertise in advanced computing, cybersecurity, Blockchain, and e-Governance to modernize and improve India’s maritime sector.
Main Point :- (i) The partnership will enable the usage of advanced digital tools and automated systems to streamline maritime operations, increase efficiency, and simplify processes.
(ii) Advanced data analytics will be applied to identify patterns and trends for better decision-making. Predictive modeling will help detect potential risks, enhance safety, and optimize operations within the maritime ecosystem.
(iii) This collaboration aims to create a secure and efficient maritime ecosystem by leveraging cutting-edge technologies, improving maritime administration, and driving innovation to boost India’s position in the global maritime sector.
