Amrit Mohan Prasad to Assume Additional Responsibility as BCAS Director General.

Appointment

On January 22, 2025, Amrit Mohan Prasad, the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), was assigned the additional responsibility of DG of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) for six months.


      - This appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), effective from November 1, 2024, or until a permanent DG joins, whichever happens first.

      - He took over from Zulfiqar Hasan, who retired on October 31, 2024.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Amrit Mohan Prasad is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Odisha cadre, having joined in 1989.

      (ii) He has previously served as the Jail DG and Special DG in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

(iii) The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, ensures aviation security in India. Established on April 1, 1987, it implements ICAO's Annexure-17 and manages the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP), led by the DG of BCAS, a DGP-ranked officer.
