Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25: Karnataka Clinches Record 5th Title with Victory Over Vidarbha.

In January 2025, the Karnataka Cricket Team claimed their 5th Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) title by defeating Vidarbha Cricket Team by 36 runs in the final of the 2024-25 edition. The match took place at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, Gujarat. Karnataka was led by captain Mayank Anurag Agarwal, while Vidarbha was captained by Karun Kaladharan Nair.
- The 23rd edition of the VHT was held from December 21, 2024, to January 18, 2025, with 38 teams competing in 135 matches. Karnataka’s previous VHT titles were won in 2013-14, 2014-15, 2017-18, and 2019-20.
- In the final, Karnataka's Smaran Ravichandran scored his second List A century, helping Karnataka post a total of 348 for 6. He was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock of 101 runs off 92 balls.
- Karnataka performed consistently throughout the tournament, losing only one match in the group stage. They advanced by defeating Baroda and Haryana in the knockout rounds before facing Vidarbha in their first final in over five years.
Main Point :- (i) Vidarbha captain Karun Nair was named Player of the Tournament for scoring 779 runs. India and Punjab pacer Arshdeep Singh topped the bowling charts with 20 wickets in the tournament.
(ii) Karnataka received a prize of ₹1 crore for their victory, while the runner-up Vidarbha team was awarded ₹50 lakh.
(iii) The VHT, officially known as the IDFC First Bank VHT, is an annual domestic 50-over tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Established in 2002-03 as the Ranji One Day Trophy, it was renamed the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2007-08 to honor legendary Indian batsman Vijay Samuel Hazare. The 2023-24 edition was won by the Haryana men's cricket team.
