According to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoC&I), India has emerged as the world’s 7th largest coffee-producing country, with exports reaching USD 1.29 billion in Financial Year 2023-24 (FY24), compared to USD 719.42 million in FY21.
- India exported over 9,300 tonnes of coffee in the 1st half of January 2025, with major buyers including Italy, Belgium, and Russia.
- Domestic coffee consumption has increased from 84,000 tonnes in 2012 to 91,000 tonnes in 2023, as per MoC&I.
- India’s coffee is predominantly cultivated in the ecologically rich Western and Eastern Ghats.
Main Point :- (i) Karnataka led the coffee production in 2022-23 with 2,48,020 Metric Tonnes (MT), followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
(ii) The top 5 coffee-producing countries in the world are Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Indonesia, and Ethiopia.
