Startup India Marks 9 Years with 1.59 Lakh Startups Recognized and 16.6 Lakh Jobs Created.

On January 16, 2025, Startup India, a transformative initiative by the Government of India (GoI) launched in 2016, celebrated its 9th anniversary. This initiative aims to foster innovation and accelerate the growth of startups across the nation. GoI has designated January 16 as National Startup Day to honor India’s strides in building a robust and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
- With over 1.59 lakh startups (up from 500 in 2016) recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) as of January 15, 2025, India has emerged as the world's 3rd largest startup ecosystem.
- The Startup India initiative is spearheaded by DPIIT under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I).
- During the celebration of Startup India's 9th anniversary in New Delhi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal (MoC&I) unveiled two significant initiatives: the PRABHAAV Factbook (Powering a Resilient and Agile Bharat for the Advancement of Visionary Startups), aimed at showcasing the progress and impact of startups in India, and the Bharat Startup Challenge, designed to support and promote entrepreneurial talent across the nation.
Main Point :- (i) In January 2025, Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, signed an MoU with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to establish a Rs 100 crore fund aimed at supporting startups and small businesses in the state.
(ii) To commemorate National Startup Day 2025, the Startup Policy Forum (SPF), with support from DPIIT and Startup India, launched two flagship programs: Startup Baithak and Startup Baatcheet.
(iii) The 9-year celebration event was held from January 15 to January 16, 2025, at the iconic Group-20 (G20) Summit Room in Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
