SpaceX's Falcon 9 Rocket Launches Blue Ghost and Resilience Lunar Landers from Kennedy Space Center.

Science and Technology

On January 15, 2025, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket launched two lunar landers—Blue Ghost and Resilience—from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA.

      - Blue Ghost, the primary payload, is led by Firefly Aerospace from Texas, USA, while the secondary payload, Resilience, is spearheaded by Japan-based ispace Inc.

      - The two lunar landers have different timelines, with Blue Ghost expected to reach the Moon first, taking about 45 days to reach lunar orbit and land near Mons Latreille, a volcanic feature in Mare Crisium.

      - Blue Ghost's mission, targeting a landing on March 2, 2025, will span 60 days, with 45 days in orbit and 14 days of surface operations. Key payloads include the LUGRE GNSS Receiver Experiment for lunar navigation and RadPC for radiation-tolerant computing.

Main Point :-   (i) The Resilience mission, also known as Hakuto-R Mission 2, focuses on deploying innovative technologies and cultural payloads.

(ii) Resilience will land in Mare Frigoris and carry the Tenacious Micro Rover, built by ispace-Europe, designed to collect lunar regolith, capture HD images, and transmit data to the lander.

(iii) Both missions are part of ongoing international efforts to expand lunar exploration and technological advancements, with a focus on navigation, robotics, and cultural contributions.
