The United Nations (UN) observes the Day of Remembrance for All Victims of Chemical Warfare every year on November 30. This day is dedicated to honoring and remembering those who lost their lives or suffered due to chemical warfare.
- In November 2005, during its 10th Session in The Hague, Netherlands, the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) decided to observe a Day of Remembrance for all victims of chemical warfare every year on April 29.
- However, during the 20th Session in 2015, the Conference changed the date, designating April 29 as the International Day for the Foundation of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), also known as "OPCW Day."
Main Point :- (i) The first-ever Day of Remembrance for All Victims of Chemical Warfare was observed on November 30, 2016.
(ii) The OPCW-The Hague Award 2024 ceremony honored two recipients: the Indian Chemical Council (ICC) and Algeria's National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology of the National Gendarmerie (NICC/NG).
The Twenty-Ninth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the CWC (CSP-29) took place in The Hague, Netherlands, on November 25, 2024.
