India Meteorological Department (IMD) Marks 150th Foundation Day.

On January 15, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), celebrated its 150th Foundation Day with a series of events, activities, and workshops. These initiatives showcased IMD's significant role in enhancing India's climate resilience and providing essential weather and climate services.


      - Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi attended the celebrations held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

      - During the event, PM Narendra Modi launched 'Mission Mausam,' an initiative aimed at transforming India into a 'Weather-Ready' and 'Climate-smart' nation through the adoption of advanced weather surveillance technologies and high-resolution atmospheric observations.

     

Main Point :-   (i) PM released a commemorative postage stamp and coin to mark the 150th anniversary of IMD.

      (ii) The coin is circular in shape, with a denomination of Rs 150, minted in 99.99% silver, and weighs 40 grams.

(iii) PM also unveiled a vision document titled "IMD Vision 2047," which outlines strategies for weather resilience and climate change adaptation as India prepares to celebrate 100 years of independence in 2047.
