India-Nepal IGC on Trade, Transit, and Unauthorised Trade Cooperation Held in Kathmandu in January 2025.

The India-Nepal Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) on Trade, Transit, and Cooperation to Combat Unauthorised Trade was held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from January 10 to January 11, 2025. This bilateral mechanism aims to strengthen trade and relations between India and Nepal.


      - The meeting involved a thorough review of the current bilateral trade and economic relations between the two nations.

      - Both countries also discussed mutual market access, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), and duty-related matters.

     

Main Point :-   (i) India confirmed its approval of Nepal's request for the supply of 2 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT) of wheat.

      (ii) At Nepal's request, India agreed to apply the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) regulations to Nepali vehicles, which include a maximum axle weight of 18.5 tonnes for two-axle vehicles and 28 tonnes for three-axle vehicles. These regulations will be applicable for cargo transit on the Kakarbhitta (Nepal)-Banglabandha (Bangladesh) via Phulbari (India) route.

(iii) On the sidelines of the India-Nepal IGC, the second edition of the Joint Business Forum (JBF) was held between India and Nepal on January 11, 2025.
