In January 2025, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he will resign as both the Prime Minister and the leader of the Liberal Party after facing strong internal opposition. He will remain in office until a new party leader is elected.


      - Canada's parliament will be suspended until March 24, 2025, when a new leader will be chosen.

      - Justin Trudeau has been the leader of the Liberal Party for 11 years and served as Prime Minister for 9 years.

      - In 2007, he won the Liberal Party nomination for the Papineau riding in MontrĂ©al. He was first elected in 2008 and then re-elected in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2021. He became the leader of the Liberal Party in April 2013.
