Union Home Minister Amit Shah Unveils 'BHARATPOL' Portal to Transform International Crime Investigations.
App and Web Portal
On January 7, 2025, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Cooperation (MoC), launched the 'BHARATPOL' portal at an event held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Delhi.
- During the event, 35 Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers and officials were honored with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation.
- The portal is designed to streamline the process for Indian Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) to request international assistance in criminal investigations through the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL).
- The CBI, acting as India's National Central Bureau (NCB) for INTERPOL, will manage the portal, facilitating coordination for international police requests, including Red Notices and other INTERPOL alerts.
Main Point :- (i) The portal will enable quicker and more efficient sharing of information between Indian LEAs and international law enforcement agencies, enhancing the response to cross-border crimes.
(ii) The 'BHARATPOL' portal features five primary modules—Connect, Interpol Notices, References, Broadcast, and Resources—offering a technological platform that facilitates seamless communication and collaboration among central, state, and Union Territory (UT) Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) across India.
(iii) The portal replaces traditional communication methods such as letters, emails, and faxes with faster, digital solutions. This ensures efficient exchanges among the CBI, INTERPOL liaison officers (ILOs), and unit officers (UOs).
