Renowned Kannada novelist and writer Na D'Souza has passed away at the age of 87.

On January 5, 2025, prominent Kannada novelist and writer Norbert D'Souza, popularly known as Dr. Na D'Souza, passed away at the age of 87 in Mangalore, Karnataka. He was born in Sagar, Karnataka, on June 6, 1937.


      - He was known for his influential works on social justice, human rights, and human relationships. He was also one of the early Kannada writers who raised awareness about environmental issues and climate change.

      - His stories depicted the struggles faced by the people of the Malnad region.

      - Na D'Souza started his career as a typist in Karnataka's Department of Public Works and worked there for 37 years.

Main Point :-   (i) In 2014, he presided over the 80th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Madikeri, Karnataka.

      (ii) Some of his works were adapted into critically acclaimed films such as Kadina Benki, Dweepa, Baluvali, Antharya, and Bettada Puradaditta Makkalu.

(iii) Na D'Souza received several awards, including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award in 1993 for his work Mulugadeya Oorige Bandavaru, the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 1998, and was honored with the Pampa Award by the Karnataka government in 2024.
