India has submitted its fourth Biennial Update Report (BUR) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

On December 30, 2024, India submitted its 4th Biennial Update Report (BUR-4) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The report serves as an update to the Third National Communication (TNC) and includes the National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory for the year 2020.
- The report outlines national action plans to mitigate emissions, monitoring methods for these actions, and details on the financial, technological, and capacity-building support India has received to address climate change.
Main Point :- (i) India's total GHG emissions, including land use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF), decreased by 7.93% in 2020 compared to 2019, but saw an increase of 98.34% since 1994.
(ii) Excluding land use and LULUCF, India’s total GHG emissions stood at 2,959 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CO2e).
(iii) After accounting for absorption by the forestry sector and land resources, India's net emissions were 2.437 million tonnes of CO2e.
