Bhuvnesh Kumar has been appointed as the CEO of UIDAI.
Appointment
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has appointed Bhuvnesh Kumar, the additional Secretary of MeitY, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) starting from January 2, 2025.
- He replaces Amit Agrawal, who was appointed Secretary of the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoC&F) in December 2024.
- Bhuvnesh Kumar is a 1995-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre. He started his administrative career in 1993 and has held important positions in both Uttar Pradesh and the Central Government.
- In UP, he served as the Principal Secretary for the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries, which is part of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying.
Main Point :- (i) Bhuvnesh Kumar has held significant positions, including Secretary in charge of Sports and Youth Welfare, Planning, and Vocational Education at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), overseeing technology initiatives and governance.
(ii) Bhuvnesh Kumar has held key roles in the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government, including Secretary of Finance in the Ministry of Finance (MoF), Secretary of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the Ministry of MSME, and Secretary of Technical Education.
(iii) He has also served as the Divisional Commissioner in the Department of Land Revenue in the Government of UP.
