India Ranks 123rd Out of 143 Countries in Readiness for an Aging Society.

According to a study published in the indexed medical journal Nature Aging, India ranked 123rd out of 143 countries (covering 95.4% of the global population) in terms of its readiness to face the challenges posed by an aging population.


      - Switzerland topped the list with the highest score of 82.3, followed by Norway in 2nd place and Denmark in 3rd.

      - India, currently the youngest country in the world with more than 50% of its population under 25 and over 65% under 35, will soon face a demographic shift and is expected to have the largest senior citizen population in the coming decades.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The study was conducted by researchers from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Columbia University in the USA, who introduced the "Global Aging Index" as a new measure.

      (ii) Rwanda ranked last (143rd) with an overall score of 36.6, followed by Togo (142nd), Afghanistan (141st), Benin (140th), and Malawi (139th).
