President Droupadi Murmu Appointed CJs for Himachal, Uttarakhand High Courts.

In December 2024, President of India, Droupadi Murmu, approved several significant judicial appointments based on recommendations from the Supreme Court (SC) Collegium.


      - Justice Gurmeet Singh (G.S.) Sandhawalia has been appointed as the Chief Justice (CJ) of the Himachal Pradesh (HP) High Court (HC).

      - Justice Guhanathan Narendar has been appointed as the CJ of the Uttarakhand HC.

      - Justice G.S. Sandhawalia was a judge in the Punjab and Haryana HC. He replaced Justice Rajiv Shakdher, who retired on 18 October 2024.

Main Point :-   (i) Justice Guhanathan Narendar, previously a judge in the Andhra Pradesh (AP) High Court, has succeeded Justice Ritu Bahri as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, following Justice Bahri's retirement on 10 October 2024.

      (ii) Four additional judges of the Karnataka High Court were elevated to permanent judges: Justice Ramachandra Dattatray Huddar, Justice Venkatesh Naik Thavaryanaik, Justice Vijaykumar Adagouda Patil, and Justice Rajesh Rai Kallangala.

(iii) Additional judges typically serve a term of two years before being appointed as permanent judges.
