South Korea Successfully Launches Its Third Spy Satellite into Orbit.

In December 2024, South Korea successfully launched its third surveillance satellite into space using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The launch took place at the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA. This satellite is equipped with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology.


      - This launch is part of South Korea's "425 Project", which aims to deploy a network of five medium-to-large surveillance satellites.

     

     

Main Point :-   (i) This achievement marks a key step in enhancing South Korea's surveillance capabilities, with the satellite being the third launched within a year, following launches in December 2023 and April 2024.

      (ii) South Korea plans to launch two more satellites by 2025 to reduce its reliance on satellite imagery from the USA.

(iii) With three satellites now in orbit, South Korea can independently monitor North Korea, which continues to expand its weapons programs.
