National Constitution Day, also known as 'Samvidhan Divas', is celebrated every year on November 26th across India to honor the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly of India in 1949. November 26, 2024, marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
- To mark the special occasion, a commemorative coin and stamp were released, along with the launch of two books titled "Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse" and "Making of the Constitution of India & its Glorious Journey."
- A booklet about the art of the Indian Constitution was also unveiled, along with the Constitution of India in both Sanskrit and Maithili languages.
- The theme for this year's National Constitution Day is "Humara Samvidhan, Humara Swabhimaan" (Our Constitution, Our Pride).
Main Point :- (i) On November 19, 2015, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJ&E) announced that the Government of India (GOI) would celebrate November 26 every year as 'Constitution Day' to promote constitutional values among citizens.
(ii) 2015 was also the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the chairman of the drafting committee of the Indian Constitution. Before this, November 26 was celebrated as Law Day.
(iii) Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, known as the Father of the Indian Constitution for his pivotal role in its creation, was honored on Constitution Day, first observed on November 26, 2015; 2024 marks his 133rd birth anniversary.
