NASA teams up with Microsoft to introduce Earth Copilot AI, making it easier to access and understand complex Earth data.
Science and Technology
In November 2024, NASA partnered with Microsoft to create Earth Copilot, a special AI chatbot that answers questions about Earth with easy-to-understand information.
- The goal of this collaboration is to change how people search, explore, and analyze NASA's geospatial (location-based) data.
- This is part of NASA's "Transform to Open Science" initiative, which aims to make over 100 petabytes (1 petabyte = 1 million gigabytes) of satellite images and Earth science data freely accessible to everyone.
Main Point :- (i) Earth Copilot will use natural language processing (a technology that helps computers understand and respond to human language) to make NASA's data easier to access. This lets users ask questions in simple language.
(ii) NASA worked with Microsoft to develop a proof-of-concept (early model) using Microsoft's Azure cloud platform and AI technology.
(iii) The Earth Copilot chatbot will make it easier for scientists, teachers, policymakers, and the public to access and understand complex data.
