Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an official 2-day visit to Kuwait from December 21st to 22nd, 2024, at the invitation of Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir (ruler) of Kuwait.


      - This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in over 40 years.

      - Indira Gandhi was the last Indian PM to visit Kuwait, 43 years ago, in 1981.

      - PM Modi was awarded the Wisam Mubarak al-Kabeer (Order of Mubarak the Great), the highest national honor of Kuwait.

Main Point :-   (i) India and Kuwait signed four agreements (Memorandums of Understanding - MoUs) in areas like defence, sports, and cultural cooperation.

      (ii) Kuwait also became a member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), which promotes the use of solar energy and supports the development of low-carbon growth economies.

(iii) On December 21st, 2024, PM Modi attended the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait. The event was organized by Kuwait and saw participation from eight countries, including Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, Iraq, and Yemen. PM Modi also visited a labor camp in the Mina Abdullah area of Kuwait, where around 1,500 Indian nationals work. He interacted with Indian workers from different states of India.
