UCSL Launches First of Six 3800 TDW General Cargo Vessels for Norway's Wilson ASA.

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), has launched the first vessel of a series of six 3800 TDW General Cargo Vessels being built for Wilson ASA of Norway.


      - The vessel was launched by Martine Aamdal Bottheim, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delh, along with Einar Tornes, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Wilson ASA, and Madhu S. Nair, Chairman and Managing Director (MD) of CSL.

      - Wilson ASA placed the order for these diesel-electric vessels in May 2023. The vessel features a total length of 89.43 meters, a width of 13.20 meters, a design draft of 4.30 meters, and a top speed of 10.30 knots.

      - The vessel is powered by 750 kilowatts (kW) of propulsion power, with two 375 kW electric motors. It is also powered by three 416 kW diesel generators and can accommodate up to 7 people.

Main Point :-   (i) The launch highlights CSL's commitment to the Indian government's initiatives, such as 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', 'Make in India', and 'Make for the World'.

      (ii) Wilson ASA, based in Bergen, Norway, is a leading short-sea fleet operator in Europe, transporting around 15 million tonnes of dry cargo across Europe.
