National Farmer's Day, also called Kisan Diwas, is celebrated every year on 23rd December across India. The day honors the significant contribution of farmers to the social and economic development of the country and marks the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Chaudhary Charan Singh, the 5th Prime Minister (PM) of India.


      - In 2001, the Government of India (GoI) declared 23 December as Kisan Diwas (National Farmer's Day) to honor Chaudhary Charan Singh's contributions to agriculture and the welfare of farmers.

      - The first Kisan Diwas was celebrated on 23 December 2001.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Theme for National Farmer's Day 2024: The theme for this year is "Empowering 'Annadatas' for a Prosperous Nation."

      (ii) This theme highlights India's commitment to supporting farmers, who are often called 'Annadatas' (providers of food).

(iii) 23rd December 2024 also marks the 122nd birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh.
