Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD) visited India from December 15 to 17, 2024, marking his first bilateral trip to India following Sri Lanka's presidential and parliamentary elections. He was accompanied by Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Deputy Minister of Finance Anil Jayantha Fernando. The visit was made at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- During his visit, President Dissanayake held discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu on various bilateral issues of mutual interest.
- He also took part in a business event in New Delhi focused on enhancing investment and commercial ties between India and Sri Lanka, and visited Bodh Gaya in Bihar.
Main Point :- (i) India and Sri Lanka signed two agreements on double taxation, capacity building, and training in the presence of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
(ii) Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly issued a statement titled "Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future," outlining various collaborative initiatives, including energy partnerships and regional security cooperation.
